Equine Communication and Confidence
through Groundwork
by Iris R Males

Professional background
I was born in the south of Germany and initially trained in an office environment spending some years in Customer Service and International Sales Support roles.
At age 20 I emigrated to England, Hampshire, where I still live at present.

At 28 I followed my long-standing ambition to learn the craft of Saddlery and Harness making. A few years and two children later, I ended up qualifying as a Master Saddler and Master Harness Maker. I work part-time on a self employed basis from home.

At the same time I started running my own small private horse rescue and rehab in the back ground. Over the years this turned into a herd of up to 7 horses at a time. I have always had horses and a particular passion for misunderstood creatures and with a strong interest in animal psychology all was unfolding in front of me.
I learnt so much from my little ’renegades’ that after many years I felt I had to take the step to teach what I had learnt to help people and horses to get along better. This is how in 2015 my venture Equine Communication and Confidence through Groundwork was born.

During 2017 I rescued a 4 year old dog (Carpathian Mountain dog cross) from Romania. The dog was more than what I had bargained for and such a disruption to our already busy lives, that something had to happen fast.
This is when my journey to join the Doggy Dan Academy for Dog Trainers began. I was very attracted to the program as there were so many similar approaches to what I was teaching about the horses and soon realized how many different lines of thoughts the two programs shared. I was hooked and so was the dog!
At present, I am working towards the final qualification, so watch this space. If you have a dog who is upsetting your life and just does not want to ‘play ball’ give me a ring. This is a lovely gentle and calm approach to make your dog a team player in your pack.
